BiS Natalie Interview - Part 1

*This was originally posted on OneHallyu on March 29th, 2018.

"6 People released from the curse of BiS"

On 3/7 BiS makes their Second Major Label Debut by releasing the Double A Side Single "Whole Lotta Love/DiPromise" through Nippon Crown's Crown Stone Label. A few days ago, at "BiS 2nd BEGiNNiNG TOUR FiNAL WHO KiLLED IDOL??" at Tokyo's Ryogoku Kokugikan, founder and leader Pour Lui graduated. This also marked the end of the Rental Trade, and Kamiya Saki returned to Gang Parade while Aya EightPrince retured to BiS.

Music Natalie Interviewed BiS on how they will carry out their new system. BiS faced various dramas before crawling back into the Major Scene after 1 yr. and 8 months since restarting. Aafter several months of turbulance, what do they think about Aya and Kamiya's Trade and Pour Lui's Graduation?

"The Joys and Pressures of a Major Debut"

--Music Natalie will be the first Interview under the new system. First of all, congratulations on the second Major Debut.

Peri: I'm very happy. I'm happy about the time it was decided upon.

Gojira: On the other hand, I had strong feelings about the Major Debut. When BiS restarted, allot of people were saying "BiS is group with a proven track record, so if they do it seriously, it's not a dream that they could have a major debut in 6 months". However, it actually didn't work at all at the beginning of the restart and I didn't have very satisfying Lives.

--Looking back at Interviews from those days, everyone was having a hard time.

Gojira: Even thought we continued activities for half a year, we were unable to deliver results so I was depressed. But then Pan and Momo joined and Saki-chan came for a limited time and gradually able to have good lives. So when the time of the Major Debut was decided, I was very happy.

Kikka: I felt the same as Peri, but I was thinking about the group and lives, and bout singing the same songs as the previous BiS when they were Major.

--For your Major Debut, What kind of Image do you have of the Nippon Crown Label?

Pan: Kitajima Saburo-san.

Peri: The image of many Enka Singers that belong to it was strong.

Gojira: Yoshizawa Kayako-san. I like Yoshizawa-san so much that I sang her song "Minor's Assertion" (Miseinen no Shucho) in a very loud voice when I auditioned for BiS. Since this is my beginning, it's amazing that I can be on the same Label.

Kikka: Yes, yes. Frankly, I wonder if we can be considered the same as these people (laughs).

--It's certainly interesting that BiS is on the same Label as Kitajima-san.

Kikka: It's very strange that BiS who does Gori Gori Rock is in the same company.

(*Gori Gori is slang for "Hard, Sharp, Biting")

--I see. Idol groups Passpo and Predia also belong to the Nippon Crown Label.

Peri: As expected, it's strange (laughs).

--Pan and Momoland, what are your thoughts on the Major Debut?

Pan: I was privelaged to debut at the Liquidroom in May 2017, so it was great environment to start in. It was difficult to understand everything the Initial Members struggled with since restarting, but it's a pleasure to have earned the rewarded of a Major Debut after making it through the Training Camp.

Momoland: I'm very happy. I just recently joined, and don't have allot of experience, so I feel like I have to be more firm.

--And Aya is back in BiS after a long time.

Aya: That's right. I feel like I've come back home.

Everyone: Welcome home!

(*Aya used the standard "Tadaima" and everyone gives the formal response of "Okaeri")

Aya: Thank you! I'm very happy. At the same time I'm coming back home, we're having our Major Debut, so personally, I feel glad. During the time of the Trade, I did my best in Gang Parade. I gained momentum and realized my fans have increased allot. I also realized how hard it is to make a Major Debut. That's why, although BiS themselves struggled to produce results, there are roads that the Seniors of the former BiS went down that are connected to our results, and we should not forget to show them gratitude.

(*When Aya says she knows how hard it is to make a Major Debut, she's referring to how Gang Parade are still Indie after all these years, and are still trying to go Major)

--I also talked about the Interview with Gang Parade which was published. Aya was active in Gang Parade longer than she was in BiS.

Peri: Even though I'm aware of this, it surprises me.

--Aya will be able to make her debut as soon as the Trade ends. At the time when Aya comes back, what are your thoughts about the other members?

Peri: Right before the Encore Stage at the WACK Fest, I heard that the Trade between Saki and Aya would end. I didn't know the reason at that point, but as time goes on, I gradually understand. During the time when Aya was in Gang Parade, I thought it was a totally different kind of Aya.

Gojira: Even when meeting on site, I felt like "Ah, Aya-chan". I wasn't that interested (laughs).

(*I think Gojira means when both groups would be performing at the same place)

Everyone: (Laughs)

Gojira: Rather than not being interested, I just thought "She looks like she's doing well" (laughs).

Kikka: It's like "That is that and this is this".

Gojira: As I read the Interview, I felt that my way of thinking has changed since I've been in BiS.

Kikka: Although it was decided she would come back sooner or later, Aya was doing her best in Gang Parade, so we thought it would be rude to say we felt sorry for her.

--Aya thought the same way. You cut off BiS during the time you were in Gang Parade. Can you talk about your feeling back then?

Aya: It was remarkable especially when I was just traded. I was muting the BiS Member's Group Line. Truthfully, I still mute it.

Peri: Hey, hey, hey!

Gojira: Well, then I'll block you (laughs).

Aya: It was troublesome! I think I'll cancel the muting once the Trade ends.

Peri: On the other hand, aren't you going to mute Gang Parade?

Aya: Ah, what should I do? If I look at it my heart will hurt. It's because I can only concentrate on one thing. However, when I said I muted BiS's Group Line, it's because I love everyone!

Underground Idols Banana Monkeys release T-Shirt depicting fallen members of other groups

To promote their upcoming One Man Live, the Banana Monkeys released a new t-shirt in which The group is depicted charging through a battle field over the corpses of members who graduated from notable Idol groups.

Due to the detail of the costumes, some Idols are obvious, while others are a bit obscure. All of them have been identified.

From left to right:

Ariyasu Momoka (元ももクロ有安) *Graduated from Momoiro Clover Z in January 2018.

Yumemi Nemu (ねむきゅん) *Graduated from Dempagumi.inc in January 2019.

Nel Nehru (ネル・ネール) *Graduated from BiS in January 2019.

YUI Metal *Graduated from Baby Metal in October 2018.

In some cases, only a prop or piece of a costume is represented because the entire group disbanded. In between Momoka and Nemu, you can see:

Vanilla Beans (バニビ) *Disbanded in 2018. Wig is shown.

PASSPO☆ *Disbanded in September 2018. Hat is shown.

It's hard to read, but above YUI Metal, it looks like ゼアゼア which is the abbreviation for "There There Theres" which disbanded in February 2019. While no specific member is portrayed, you can just make out the wings of the costume.

Lastly, the girl in the far left section above Momoka holding a baseball is believed to be former Banana Monkeys member, Miru Haruno. Apparently, she was fired, so this rubs salt into the wounds. She's wearing their previous uniform.

The Banana Monkeys are known for courting controversy. This is the same group that held a fan party in a Love Hotel, had an indirect kissing event, and a sexual harassment scandal that may have been staged. For those unfamiliar, indirect kissing is when you place something like a piece of clear plexiglass between the lips of two people kissing. Here are some pics from the event.

While some found the idea interesting, others think the shirt is a bit tasteless.

"While the presentation isn't bad, honestly, its unpleasant"

"I don't know her name, but isn't that girl a former Banana Monkeys member?
She's in another group now, so this is pretty rude.
Seriously, isn't this the worst?"

Some people are upset because they misunderstood the message. They interpreted the image as the Banana Monkeys fighting against the other Idols, when they're supposed to be allies. Someone pointed out that they most likely took inspiration from the painting "Liberty Leading the People" by Eugène Delacroix.

At the very least, Banana Monkeys gave Idols fans an art history lesson.

BiS to disband (again). Will reform (again) after auditions later in the year.

At the finals of WACK's Training Camp over the weekend, it was announced that BiS would disband, with their final concert taking place on May 11th. Details were posted on WACK's Official site.

"Regarding the BiS members, thank you for always supporting them.
We would like to make a report on the members.

We accepted a request by all 9 members to disband.

The date of their final performance has been decided on May 11th, the final show of the "Are you ready to go?" Tour.

We sincerely apologize to all the Researchers (BiS fans) for the sudden announcement.

We look forward to your continued support of BiS."

Watanabe Junnosuke, the mastermind behind WACK and all it's groups, announced auditions for the next incarnation of BiS.

This marks the second time BiS has disbanded. The original group disbanded in 2014. 2 years later, it reformed with 4 new members and founder Pour Lui returning.

To put the announcement into perspective, here's a little history.

The WACK Training Camp, or WACK Audition Camp, is a place where young hopefuls can audition to join WACK's stable of groups which include BiSH, BiS, GANG PARADE, and EMPiRE, and a new trainee program called WAgg. The audition takes place over the course of one week at the end of March, culminating with the WACK Exhibition where the winners are chosen from the finalists. The Exhibition also features live performances from all the WACK groups as well as a major announcement.

Last March, the BiS.League was announced. BiS, which at the time had grown to include 12 members, was split into 2 Units: BiS1st and BiS2nd. There would be an AKB48 style Election where fans could buy CDs and use a code to vote for members online or at live events. Whoever ranked the highest would be in BiS1st and receive the majority of promotions. The low ranked members would be in BiS2nd and get minor promotions. The members didn't enjoy competing like this, and the BiS.League ended after the 2nd Election.

It's been speculated that the members decided to disband out of protest. During the 2nd Election, Watanabe announced that the lowest ranking members could be removed from BiS. The 5 members who ranked in the bottom were: Toriaez Hana, YUiNA EMPiRE, Muropanako, Nel Nehru and Aya Eightprince. Because of their low ranking, all of them except Nel Nehru would participate in this year's Training Camp (Nel Nehru withdrew from BiS in January due to poor health). The stipulation was added that, if any of them were eliminated, they would be fired from BiS. Ultimately, Aya Eightprince and Toriaez Hana were eliminated and required to leave the group, but would still remain in the company. It seems that the members decided if all 9 couldn't be in the group, they would rather disband.

Peri Ubu, an original member of the reformed BiS, confirmed the decision was made by the "BiS Team" to disband.
The status of the remaining members is unknown. Will any of them still be part of WACK? We'll have to wait and see.

Anyway, thanks for over 2 yrs. of fun and chaos.

2016

2019

This means that "Are you ready?" will be the final single for this Era.  It's a fitting farewell song. Judging from the MV, it's almost like they knew it would come to an end.

Last Idol - Natalie 4th Single Interview part 2

Theme 3: "Victory and Defeat"

The fate of the "Last Idol" group is always being divided between the Winners and Losers. The girls taste either Heaven or Hell. Although LaLuce made their superb debut as "Last Idol" after the first season, they lost the Unit Battle in the second season and started over as LaLuce. What did you learn after experiencing such a huge setback? How did you grow, and what are you thankful for?

(*The intro includes a link to the 2nd Single article about Chou Cream Rockets taking the title of Last Idol)

--On "Last Idol in AbemaTV", Abe made an impressive comment that "We gained confidence in the first season, but carry the burden of losing in the second season". Have you thought more deeply about what you regret?

Haruka: There are too many...

Midori: Thinking back now, we didn't express ourselves enough. We wanted to figure out what our Producer, Komuro (Tetsuya), was thinking on our own, and try to carry that out, so our minds were pre-occupied with that. This time, we expressed our feelings to Goto (Tsugutoshi) and talked allot about what we wanted to do.

Natsumi: Certainly, that's a big difference, isn't it.

Midori: After all, I regretted losing in the second season. If we lost through that way of thinking, then there was no choice but to change it. If I lost thinking "I couldn't say anything...", I'd regret it. As a result of that, things turned out well. We understand now that we have to think about what we want.

Airi: When I was able to win the first season, I thought "The brilliant days are beginning". That feeling would be brief...

Midori: That was definitely a brief story (laughs).

Airi: We were confronted with the second season so quickly (laughs). I honestly thought "Here we go again...". However, we feel better about it now. We lost once in the Battle between the other Units. Because of that, we could see what our strengths and weaknesses were. Our debut was a brief story, and we behaved normally after the end of the first season. Now, I think we've become like a Tengu moving forward.

(*When Airi says they behaved normally, I think she just means they didn't make an changes to how they approached the second season)

Midori: In that case...I think that's a bit scary.

Airi: Yes. I misunderstood the benefit of the power of Television and how we can use it. I don't think I would have been happy if we won the second season. Because I know the feeling of losing, now I truly understand the happiness of singing the title song. How big is the title of Last Idol to us? How much do we appreciate it? After engraving these feelings of gratitude into my heart, I want to perform.

--Wow, Yasuda-san sums up the moral so beautifully, doesn't she (laughs).

Abe: Now I'm hesitating about talking next (laughs). A while ago, Midori-chan said "we couldn't express ourselves during the second season", right? I feel the same way. on the other hand, I thought at the time "it's not good unless everyone's feelings come together". This time, Goto-san said he got allot of information from us, so he knew what we were aiming for.

--Was it easy talking with your Producer, Goto-san?

Midori: He was very friendly and his stance was "Please say anything". In some way, rather than saying he's a great Producer, he feels like a kind Father. He wanted our opinions not just on the song, but on the clothes as well. I think it was a great opportunity that we happened to meet Goto-san.

Theme 4: "The bond of the 5 member Unit is born"

LaLuce was formed through the rivalries that were sparked during the 1st Season Survival Battle. A strong bond was formed during the Unit Battle, and after the graduation of the Senior members Yoshizaki Aya and Koga Yako, you became 5 members.

(*There's a link to the article about the graduations of Aya, Yako, and Good Tears's Orin)

--Due to the nature of the "Last Idol" program, in the beginning there was the feeling of a group being created, right? How did you strengthen you teamwork from there?

Haruka: Your age, where you grew up, your career up to that point...Just about everything was different, right? However, I think deep down, we felt the same way. I applied to the first season and felt I could achieve my dream there. However, at first I was afraid to talk.

--Who was the most afraid?

Haruka: Everyone. All of us were scared. At the time, no members had been decided. At first, I was the youngest, so it was scary being with the older sisters.

Natsumi: I joined around the same time as Nana-min (Abe), so it was easy to open up to her. I couldn't talk to Airi-chan and Haru-nun (Haruka) at all, and Midori-chan had left right before I joined.

(*To put Natsumi's comment into context for the readers, there's a note about how Midori was eliminated once, but returned later after winning the revival battle)

Midori: That's so true. If you join later, you can be puzzled by one another (laughs).

Natsumi: Because of that, I wasn't able to get along with the other members. So I thought "What will I do?" when "Last Idol in Abema TV" started. At that point, I was able to change. I could share my opinions with everyone, and gradually, you could say that our feelings became 1 and the same.

--Did the graduation of Yoshizaki Aya and Koga Yako have a significant impact?

Abe: It was amazing!

(*Abe uses "Sugoi" which can mean good or bad depending on the the situation. I'm not entirely sure which way she's using it, but considering that things turned out well for them, I'm taking it as a positive)

Airi: The first season was an individual game. In the second season, only the 2 oldest (Yoshizaki and Koga) gave a clear opinion. We were completely reliant on them. To be honest, it was more like "Seniors and Juniors" than "Peers".

Midori: Absolutely. Of course, we felt a bond, but in all honesty, many parts had been split up. That's how I think about it now.

(*I'm not sure exactly what Midori means by "parts split up". She could just mean the members hadn't formed a cohesive group yet)

Airi: So, when I found out that the two of them would be graduating, I quickly said "This is more than I can handle!". Now I'll be the oldest. There's no one to hold it together.

--Couldn't you hold it together just based on morality?

Airi: It was impossible because I don't rely on that too much (laughs). However, there was a benefit to their loss. We were forced to speak for ourselves.

Abe: The voices of 5 people were more visible than before.

Airi: Recently, we had the chance to sing "Wind Blows" from the second season. When the lyrics "Our bonds are born" came up, we got very emotional. "What's this?" I thought. It was the first time I felt that way. Because 2 members were missing, and a big hole had opened, it became a wall that we had to overcome. At that time, the real bond of LaLuce was born. It felt like we had all become connected, and there were allot of tears.

Theme 5: "Looking to the Future"

Goto Tsugutoshi, who participated as a Producer on the program, gave a message to LaLuce "I want you to work while looking towards the future". The girls who begin activities while drawn together into an instant Unit, what are your dreams for the future?

(*When they write "The girls who begin activities while drawn together into an instant Unit", they might mean that the 5 of them are now a Unit instead of the 7 member group that was originally formed, and this is a new beginning for them)

--What kind of group does LaLuce want to be in the future?

Midori: We're the ones who started as the Last Idol, and now we're singing the title song of the 4th Single. Because of this, I think LaLuce is the most visible group from the perspective of the general public. Naturally, I want us to be the group that leads all of Last Idol Family. Even if the number of members increases with the addition of the 2nd Generation, that won't change. From the beginning, we all said "We can do this!". We will continue to exist.

Abe: As Midori-chan said, the feeling that LaLuce wants to be the center of Last Idol Family is strong. To do that, we have to work harder than the other Units, and I feel we have to increase the things we can do. In the future, no matter how long the program continues, I want it to be said that "LaLuce is perfectly suited to be Last Idol". That's the kind of group I want us to be.

Haruka: LaLuce often gets to sing cool songs. I think it's a little different from the image of the Royal Road Idol. There are many Idols out there, so I want to make LaLuce's color and personality unique. I don't want us to be compared to anyone else. I want you to quickly say "LaLuce is LaLuce".

(*When Haruka says "I don't want us to be compared to anyone else", she actually uses the term "〇〇っぽい". The second part means "ppoi" which translates to "ish". It's a way for Japanese to say "girl+ish", "child+ish", etc. The first part "〇〇" is where you would insert whatever you want. Haruka uses "〇〇っぽい" to make a general statement that she doesn't want any comparisons. Kind of like "AKBish" or "Keyaki-ish". That's why I translated it that way)

LADYBABY to release 2nd Single as 4 members

LADYBABY will release their 2nd physical single "Haten ni Raimei" (Thunder Breaks the Heavens) on May 28th through the new label, Raimei Records (Thunder Records). It incorporates various elements such as JPop, Hip Hop, Death Voice, etc. into a heavy sound that is synonymous with LadyBaby. The single will include 2 coupling tracks "God's Not" and "LB 4 Future".

(*Haten comes from "Haten Kou (破天荒)". It means "Doing something that has never been done before" or "Unheard of/Unprecedented". A literal translation would be "Break the Heavens", so the title would be "Thunder Breaks the Heavens")

Raimei Records is a joint label between TV Tokyo Music and Clearstone. It will strongly support Artists that are unique within the music industry and allow them to develop without interference.

2019.5.28 On Sale. LADYBABYニューシングル『破天ニ雷鳴』
<価格>¥1.200(税込)
<品番>QARF-20001 ~ 20005(全5形態)

(収録曲)
1. 破天ニ雷鳴
2. God’s Not
3. LB 4 Future

Normally, I wouldn't post something basic like this, but this will be LADYBABY's first physical single since "Hoshi no nai sora" was released a year ago. They did release a digital single "Damedame Dono" last October, and just released another one last week, "Riot Anthem", but I expected a little more after they became a 4 member group. When they started making digital releases, I was worried they were running out of money, but they must have just been looking for a new record deal. Hopefully it means we'll get more substantial releases this year.

Comments from the members:

Kaneko Rie

"I'm happy to see new and important works by the 4 of us increase. On this single, I think that the color of each member can be seen, and it incorporates what we've learned/experienced over the past year since the group became 4 members. The strength of the song lies in the immediacy of the lyrics, of what it says about who we are "now". Along with the heaviness, rapping, and metal riffs, it's a song that can only be expressed to it's fullest when performed live, so by all means, please listen to it with that feeling!"

Ikeda Nana

"I'm very happy to release our new single this way. This song differ slightly from the atmosphere/vibe we've created up till now. There's a bit of a street vibe with lots of rapping. It's become a very cool song! It's because of the current incarnation of LADYBABY that you can enjoy this kind of music!"

Karasawa Fuka

"I'm really happy that we decided to release our first single in about a year! When you listen to it live, it's a song that unexpectedly becomes a lullaby, so please look forward to it."

Arima Emily

"Depending on the style of these 3 lovely songs, they create a work that vividly showcases each members personality! I was honored to be involved in the production by writing lyrics for the Death Voice parts. I'd be happy if you'd listen to it."

Momoclo's Big Spring 2018 in Higashiomi City

*Originally posted on OneHallyu on April 19th, 2018.

Momoclo's upcoming concerts on the 21st and 22nd are taking place in Higashiomi City in Shiga Prefecture. The City has been taking steps to revitalize the region and has attracted group business trips. However, they're concerned over the influx of fans attending Momoclo's concerts. Omi Railway's Daigaku Station is the closest to the Concert Venue and it's usually unmanned. They expect about 30,000 Fans over the 2 days so there could be a bottleneck. The article also says there's limits to the "Special Diamond" which, if I understand correctly, refers to the diagram of the Train Lines that criss cross and form a Diamond shape. They must mean that there are limitations because of the Schedule that's in place.

Daigaku Station

MCZ held Last year's Spring Concerts in Fujimi City in Saitama Prefecture and about 42,000 Fans attended over 2 days. Aiming to increase it's name recognition as a place to hold concerts, Higashiomi put in a bid and was chosen at the end of last year. The Concerts are titled "Momoclo's Big Spring 2018 in Higashiomi City". They're being held in Nunobiki Sports Park, which is an Athletic Track. However, the parking lot can't be used, so Fans have to take public Transportation.

The Venue

Since it's 30 minute's both ways by Shuttle Bus, Fans are expected to use the afforementioned Daigaku Station which is only 1km from the Venue. The Station is next to a College, but most students travel by car which is why it's unmanned most of the time. The Station is single sided and doesn't even have a Station Building. A 2 Car Train runs on weekdays with a total of 50 Cars going up and down the line. The average number of passengers is about 160 per day. There's no automatic Ticket Gate, and IC Cards like ICOCA and Suica can't be used.

Around Oct. of last year, when the City began it's policy of attracting more concerts, they began discussing counter measures to address the transportation issue. They quickly came to the conclusion that Omi Railway couldn't be used. Even if they increase the intervals to 1 Train every 30 min., the maximum capacity for one Train is 260 passengers. The Concert Promoter/Organizer posted on the homepage not to use Omi Railway, but they estimate about 1,000 people will still use it. They're even going through Twitter posts to try and estimate the number of Fans who are considering using the Railway. The spokesman doesn't seem to have any solution.

Back on Feb. 20th, Arin and Reni visited Higashiomi City Hall and met with Mayor Ogura Masakiyo. I remember this. They surveyed the venue as well.

Sounds like a total mess and the City got way in over their heads. Hopefully fans don't miss out on the concert because of this.

(*Everything turned out fine in the end)

Last Idol - Natalie 4th Single Interview Part 1

What is Cool? LaLuce's current lineup discusses 5 themes

There's an introduction that briefly mentions the Last Idol Audition Show on TV Asahi, and the release date for "Everything will be all right" on 10.24. It goes on to talk about the Producer Battle on Abema TV and how LaLuce, who sang the 1st Single "Bandwagon", was victorious in the 2nd Producer Battle. They also mention Goto as the Producer. The highlight of the song is supposed to be LaLuce's powerful dance. In the interview, the members will be asked about the theme of the song "Being Cool", the members opinions on 5 themes, and the setbacks and glory they experienced throughout the Battle.

Theme 1 - What is "Cool"?

The core of the theme for this single "Everything will be alright" is "Coolness". When LaLuce approached this song, what was your definition of "Cool"?

--Even if I say "Cool" matter of factly, I think the definition will differ depending on the person. For example, some people will say "people who lie are bad". However, there is also the idea of "gentle lies" (*White lies).

Airi: I see. If people think that you are cool, then you will be respected by everyone. Perhaps you could say that being cool is earning the respect of other people. There are many people who respect Actors and Artists. Also, since I became an Idol myself, I've noticed things I didn't before, like how wonderful the choreography of Idols can be. AKB48, Nogizaka48...the respect I have for those groups has increased. They've had an influence on me and you can see it come out in my performances. Someday, I want to become an Idol that others can look up to.

Midori: Yes, my way of thinking is close to Airi-chan's. In other words, people admire people who are cool. Of course, what's inside is also important, but that's not something people will be interested in if your appearance or visual doesn't create a good first impression. So, if you think "that girl is cute", it may be the first step to becoming cool.

Haruka: "Cute" can also be "Cool"...

Midori: That's right. If you're an Idol, appealing to fans with cuteness is your job.

Natsumi: Well, there are various pattern when thinking about what's cool. I think that people who don't give up are cool.

Airi: Someone who doesn't give up?

(*Natsumi used the word "Megenai Hito". It's kind of hard to translate. I means something like "someone who won't give up and tries their best through hardship". There's another meaning that might mean something like "Having a crush on someone" from the perspective of a girl. Airi seems a little confused, so I don't know how common Megenai is)

Natsumi: Even if a person's feelings drop, they will never give up. I wonder what I should say...specifically, someone like Airi-chan.

Airi: What!? That's so sudden (laughs).

Natusmi: This is the truth. During the 2nd Last Idol Producer Battle on Abema TV, Airi-chan became depressed.

--Because some people may not have watched the broadcast, could you explain the situation at the time?

Airi: At that time, I was dealing with some private things, and my mental state had dropped. It was something that had nothing to do with LaLuche or the Battle on the program, but I brought those feelings with me onto the broadcast. I tried to change my feelings, but because I was upset, I knocked over the mic stand...I was impatient and it died in the middle (laughs). We were defeated in the Battle because of me and I was very depressed.

(*A little context for what Airi said in the 2nd to last sentence. When she says "It died in the middle" , the word she uses is "Kokechatta (コケちゃった)". This is an abreviation of "Kokechaimashita (こけちゃいました)". This phrase was said by Japanese long distance runner Taniguchi Hiromi (谷口浩美). He was a favorite at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. However, he fell halfway through and managed to lose a shoe in the process. This cost him 30 secs. He managed to catch up, but finished in 8th place. After the race, he commented that "It died in the middle" and "I was lucky. I did it with allot of precision". I'm guessing he was making a joke. I'm not familiar enough with this to know how relevant it is in Japanese Pop Culture, but since Airi used the quote, it must be well known.

If you want to delve deeper into it, here's a clip. At 1:25 you can see Hiromi fall and lose one of his shoes.

Part of LaLuche's choreography for "Everything will be alright" during the Producer Battle had Abe and Airi using mic stands. They would sing into the mic and dip the stand forward. It's been a while since I watched it, but there must have been an early perf where Airi dropped her mic stand)

Natsumi: Oh, no. We were already laughing about it next week. I thought that switching up the feeling was really good.

Airi: Really! I'm so happy you said that. At the time I was only able to recover because all the members supported me. I'm not cool, I just got help from everyone.

--Having a humble attitude is also cool (laughs). What about you Haruka?

Haruka: I think that people who don't show weakness are cool. No matter what happens, they'll give 100% up on the stage. Before I became an Idol, I watched a live performance of Yumemiru Adolescence (*an Idol group) and was deeply moved. I thought "They're really the best!". However, at the time, Shida Yumi had a high fever of 39 degrees (*This would be 102.2 degrees Farenheit). I learned later on that she received an injection so she could stand on stage, so I was really surprised. I didn't get the feeling that anything was wrong. I was in awe that "This is the world of professionals".

--Shida-san always gives the impression of someone who isn't serious, so it's even more surprising, isn't it?

(*Shida Yumi has become a model and actress, so she must be well known enough for the interviewer to make this point)

Haruka: That's right! I think that kind of gap is cool, so that might be a good point, right?

(*When Haruka says "gap", she either means the difference between someone who wouldn't perform while being sick and someone who would perform no matter what, or how someone who isn't very serious can surprise you by pushing through a high fever and perform well)

Abe: Everyone has their own idea...For me, I think "Cool" is when someone does something that I can't do. Also, I think that someone who does something for the first time is cool (*She might mean a trendsetter or someone who is innovative). I'm working as an Idol now because I wanted to be just like my favorite Idols. However, these Idols aren't imitating anyone. They have there own individual personality. That's why I want to create "the one and only Abe Natsumi". Recently, I started to think I can really do that.

Theme 2 "Performance Discussion/Evaluation"

"Last Idol" is different from other Idol groups. You have to Battle on a weekly program and receive a clear Judgment of victory or defeat. For LaLuce, what is your "ideal flow for an Idol performance"?

--First off, I think there's a problem of "where do you put the merit (quality/superiority) within an Idol performance?" (*Where are the best qualities within an Idol performance?). I think the members will be divided on this assessment.

Midori: That's a difficult question!

Haruka: I think the ideal form of an Idol is that "in a group, the individual personality of each member can be seen well".

Everyone: (applause)

Airi: Althought no one objects to Haruka-chan's opinion, if I would add something, I'd say that we'd like to "draw feelings from everyday life". It's not just about competing in a stage performance. For example, the expression when the members eyes meet on stage, I don't know how our everyday relationships come across. It's supposed to convey to the audience a feeling of friendship through the act of smiling. The ordinary relationships that we have in the dressing room, what we do in our private time, all these things come out during the performance.

--Airi-san is very flashy to look at, but her remarks are like the morals in a textbook (laughs).

Airi: Definitely. I think I'm really serious even when I'm by myself (laughs).

Natsumi: I think each person evaluates the performance aspect differently. For me, when I'm watching an Idol, I'm impressed by the gap. "While it's cool during the performance, when it comes to the MC, it's becomes more amusing/funny". It's that kind of contrast, right? I adore you so much...(looks longingly at Airi).

Midori: I've seen this all before (laughs). There is that kind of gap for Idols. Who's a good example of this?

Natsumi: Yasuda Airi-chan from the group called LaLuce (laughs). This is embarrassing. All I'm talking about today is Airi-chan...

Midori: I think the kind of performance required for Idols is different from that of other Artists. Of course, singing skill is important, but in the case of an Idol, there's a quality like "the charm of being okay to make mistakes". It's more important to convey the overall message of the song than to have perfect pitch. Thinking carefully about the meaning of the lyrics and how to present that. Depending on the song, it can be difficult to express our emotions. Even so, it's still important to convey the emotions well to the audience. It's said this kind of Idol performance is top notch, isn't it?

Abe: That's right. I feel the same way as Midori-chan. As much as you want someone who can sing and dance well, an Idol isn't good unless they can convey something else. People who watch you feel better or gain courage. If you don't have that kind of influence, you can say there isn't much significance to it. That's why, as Midori-chan put it, it makes sense to add meaning to the performance.

Midori: I speak very passionately, don't I?

Abe: Also, the transition from song to song, the chang of formations inside the song...that's part of the performance too. When I'm watching other Idols, I pay close attention to this. Singing and dancing are only good if you do them firmly and tell a story. When I'm on stage, I can't escape this feeling.
